Lillix Learning To Be A Duo Again
by Kate MacRae (CHARTattack)

Can we call it a comeback?

Well, call it whatever you will, but it’s clear the creative forces behind Lillix, Tasha-Ray and Lacey-Lee Evin, have been hard at work on their first release since 2006’s Into The Hollow.

“I feel so much excitement towards it because we put so much work into it,” Tasha-Ray says. “We have full-time jobs, and every Friday, we’d be in the studio.

“We’re so proud of finally finishing it. It’s been a long time coming, I guess you could say.”

Lillix have also been going through some lineup changes, most recently with the addition and departure of guitarist Britt Black. She left Lillix in late 2009, which prompted the name of their new album, Tigerlily.

“The reason we named it Tigerlily is because we were called Tigerlily when we first started, when we were just kids in elementary school,” Tasha-Ray says. “That’s when we were having fun, recording and playing every show we could get and we wrote all our own material.

“We were doing it all on our own, and that’s kind of where we’re at now with our new record. The focus is on Lacey and myself, the sisters. We stated Lillix in our basement, so it all originates from us anyway.”

Tigerlily is also Lillix’s first release since they left their former label, Maverick, with whom they released their 2003 Falling Uphill debut album and Into The Hollow.

This is a large step for the band, as it means they’re entirely responsible for funding the album, something they’ve never done before.

“It’s scary because you have no idea what to expect,” Tasha-Ray says. “After all, it’s just us doing it; we fund our own music. But that’s what a lot of artists are doing now; it’s almost like you have to.”

With a fall tour coming up and a video for their new single “Nowhere To Run (Girls With Guns)” on constant rotation on MuchMusic, it doesn’t seem like the Evin sisters have too much to worry about in the future.

“It’s about having fun with the crowd and we’ve become way more laid back onstage,” Tasha-Ray says. “We just want to get the crowd into it and feed off their energy and get people dancing. That’s what we’re all about.

“But really all you can do is be yourself and create music that you like and hope that other people like it. I can’t predict the future, you know? I wish I could but then that would be kind of boring.”

Tigerlily will be in stores on Aug. 24. You can check out the video for “Nowhere To Run (Girls With Guns)” below:
